WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
-
The Hawks prepared for their first conference home game, squaring up with the Golden Eagles who sit atop of the Empire 8 standings.
-
Brockport was the first to connect from the field, stringing together two baskets before Macy Durkin (Syracuse, N.Y.) was able to get Hartwick on the board. Durkin corralled her own miss and put it back up with force for her first two points of the night.
-
Yadi Smith (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) sliced her way through the heart of the Brockport defense, dishing it off to an open Natalie Vredenburgh (Delhi, N.Y.) to tie the game at four.
-
Coach Lombard's squad did a great job containing the Golden Eagles' potent offense in the early goings of the contest by forcing the opposition to make tough shots.
-
After another four point spurt from Brockport, Daniella DeBiase (Staten Island, N.Y.) connected from downtown to bring the game within one with two minutes left in the first.
-
Emma Cohen (Utica, N.Y.) drained her two free throws as the first quarter ended with the teams knotted at 13.
-
Brockport opened the second quarter with a bucket from their top scorer but Cohen was quick to answer back with a jumper of her own.
-
Trinity Thornton (Sherburne, N.Y.) made her presence felt in the painted area, scooping an offensive board and sinking the putback for two consecutive possessions to get the Hawks their first lead of the quarter.
-
After tying the game up once again, Brockport was able to go on a 5-0 run to end the half to give them some breathing room as the Hawks went into the half trailing by six.
-
The Hawks conceded two early baskets to start the third quarter before Smith connected from beyond the arc on back to back possessions to cut the deficit to four.
-
Hartwick did their best to stay in the contest, finding buckets anyway they could but foul trouble and good three point shooting from the Golden Eagles allowed them to pad their lead.
-
Brockport remained in control for the rest of the contest as the Hawks continued to scratch and claw at the lead but the Empire 8's leading offense proved to be too much to handle tonight.
-
Durkin continues her stellar sophomore season, leading the Hawks with eight points, ten rebounds and four assists on the night.
-
Cohen, Smith, Vredenburgh and Seneca Williamson (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) all connected for six points to round out the scoring.
