HOW IT HAPPENED

With both the Hartwick Hawks and the Elmira Soaring Eagles coming off of conference losses in their prior respective games, the two teams were hungry for a win. But it was the Hawks to strike first and keep momentum going in this conference match. The Hawks would collect back-to-back penalty corners within the first two minutes, with Katelyn Klotz (South Glens Fall, N.Y)  and Angioletti orchestrating a beautiful give-and-go to get the first goal on the board. Elmira would manage one shot in the first period, though it was wide.

Despite a barrage of shots, the Soaring Eagles would hold off the Hawks until the second quarter, where Leeson would bury her first collegiate goal off an assist from Klotz.Hawks would tally another goal off a penalty corner nearly four minutes later, this time by sophomore Makayla Bales (Sidney, N.Y.) while Angioletti snags her second assist of the day, a career-high for the junior.

The Hawks only turned up the intensity in the third, maintaining possession long enough to capitalize off yet another penalty corner, with Angioletti delivering the goal off a pass from Hand. Within the next three minutes, Hand would snag both a goal of her own and a second assist off of a goal from Natalie O'Malley (Pleasantville, N.Y.), her first of the season. The Soaring Eagles fought back for every scoring opportunity, however. In the final minutes of the fourth, they would tally their lone two penalty corners, where Reynolds would make her lone save of the night. Despite this late rally, the Hawks were dominant in their lead. Hartwick would slow the action down in the fourth and final quarter, but would still tally four shots, two of them coming from senior Zoe Wagner (Lockport, N.Y.).

The Soaring Eagles' defensive unit would tally two defensive saves alongside the ten saves from their goalkeeper, but it was not enough to hold back the Hawks, who walked away with the 6-0 shutout win in their third conference game of the season.

UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
