Cross Country Competes at Hamilton Invitational

CLINTON, N.Y. - The cross country teams attended Hamilton Invitational, with the women's team placing 5th and the men's team placing 6th.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The day kicked off first with the women's 5k, as senior Brynita Haas (Red Creek, N.Y.) continued her top ten finishing streak with a 9th place finish at 19 minutes and 38 seconds, a personal record. Not far behind was Julia Weinschreider (Williamson, N.Y.) in 17th place, clocking in at 21 minutes and 33 seconds. The women's cross country team secured 5th place out of 6 participating teams overall, securing a victory over conference rival SUNY Poly.

The men's 8k commenced directly after the women's race had concluded, with Avery Lungstrom (Bel Air, Md.) again leading the Hawks. In this race, he would achieve a personal record and clock in at 29 minutes and 31 seconds. Devon Spalding (Mineola, N.Y.) would cross the finish line a little over a minute later, and secure 49th place overall. To follow him up would be Erik Higgins (Buffalo, N.Y.), who recorded a time of 31 minutes and 17 seconds. The men's team worked together to grab 6th place out of 7 teams, once again soaring over SUNY Poly.

COMMENTS FROM HEAD COACH NATE CREWS

"Today was probably the best weather we've had all season for cross country. Haas led the way with a top 10 finish and ran her first cross country sub-20 5k. With conference around the corner I think this was a great showing for where our women are. The gentleman showed a lot of progress this week over the 8k distance. Lungstrom ran his first sub-30 8k, a huge milestone. Spalding and Higgins weren't far behind, ensuring we came out over conference competition."

UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS

The Hawks make the trip to Springfield, Massachusetts to attend the Western New England Invitational on Saturday, October 18th with a start time slated for 10 AM.
