UTICA, N.Y. - The men's cross country team tried out another 8k course at the SUNY Poly Wildcat Invitational, where their combined efforts earned them 4th place and above two other in-conference schools.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hawks would face several more conference rivals in the 8k course, and rallied together for a strong finish overall. First-year Avery Lungstrom (Bel Air, Md.) continued to impress, as he snagged 19th place out of 67 runners and finished with a time of 30 minutes and 51 seconds.

Not far behind were his teammates Erik Higgins (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Basil Metz (Highland, N.Y.), who finished within six seconds of each other and placed 27th and 28th, respectively. Devon Spalding was the fourth Hawk to finish with a time of 32 minutes and 35 seconds.

Overall, the Hawks' combined efforts earned them a 4th place team finish. They would outpace conference rivals Keuka and host SUNY Poly, as well as SUNY Potsdam.

"The men got a second look at the 8k distance on something a bit more challenging. Today, the focus was much more on head-to-head racing within conference as opposed to time. The men managed to defeat two other conference schools, earning 4th as a team."

The cross country teams will travel to Clinton, New York, where they will attend the Hamilton Invitational on Saturday, October 11th for a 12PM start to the day.
