HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hartwick Field Hockey team continued its red-hot stretch with the final three weeks of Empire 8 play on the horizon, dismantling the Brockport Golden Eagles 5–1 on Saturday morning.
It was an early start for the Hawks, who came out firing from the opening whistle. Makayla Bales (Sidney, N.Y.) nearly broke through three minutes in, missing just wide before 'Wick earned a pair of penalty corners. Despite dominating possession in the first quarter, Hartwick couldn't find an opener, while keeper Ava Reynolds (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) turned away Brockport's lone chance as time expired.
The Hawks struck quickly in the second, displaying crisp ball movement that freed Bales to find Kayla Kinkel (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) on the far post for the opening tally just a minute into the frame. Six minutes later, Kendal Woolley (Blue Point, N.Y.) cleaned up a loose ball to double the lead. The Golden Eagles countered with their most active offensive stretch of the game, registering four shots and four corners, but Reynolds and the back line stood firm to keep the shutout intact through halftime.
Hartwick reestablished control early in the third, converting on a penalty corner midway through the frame as Kinkel worked through traffic before feeding Katelyn Klotz (South Glens Falls, N.Y.), who buried her 10th goal of the season to make it 3–0. Less than a minute later, Hope Angioletti (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) set up Caroline Aspuru (Farmingville, N.Y.) for a quick strike, extending the lead to four.
Brockport got on the board early in the fourth off a third consecutive corner to cut the deficit to three, but the Hawks immediately responded. Angioletti and Aspuru linked up again four minutes later for Hartwick's fifth and final score, sealing the dominant road victory.
The Hawks have now won four straight Empire 8 contests, outscoring their opponents 21–1 during the streak, and sit alone in second place in the conference standings with five regular-season games remaining on the 2025 slate.
