HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hawks found momentum early in the first set, with Gracias making the first successful offensive attack, while Hornick followed up with back-to-back aces. Elmira would fight back to regain a few points and narrow the Hawks' lead, but Kinnane made light work of collecting three solid aces in a row. However, the solid effort from the Hawks would not be enough to take down Elmira, as the Soaring Eagles took the first set 25-20.
It was a tough battle in the second, though Keoviengsamay led the Hawks with two kills and two aces in a strong drive that brought the Hawks up to a 14-5 lead. Momentum only continued to build as the Hawks eventually closed out the set 25-9 off a kill from Shelby Swartz (Candor, N.Y.).
The third set reflected the first, with Elmira trading points with the Hawks despite still managing to maintain a lead. However, Gracias and Swartz would keep 'Wick on the attack while a Kinnane ace solidified a third set victory. The Soaring Eagles and the Hawks again traded off leading in the fourth, but the Hawks were able to pull ahead off consecutive errors and a defense that stood tall, overtaking the Soaring Eagles 3-1.
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
The Hawks will travel next to SUNY Geneseo to take on the Knights on Friday, October 31st at 6 PM.
