HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hawks returned to action following a bye week, traveling to face the Empire 8's newest affiliate members, the Alfred State Pioneers, who came in riding a 20-point win over Morrisville.
The first quarter saw both teams trading possessions, but Alfred State struck first with a 55-yard rush up the middle and added another score to take control early. Hartwick settled in during the second quarter, sparked by a 40-yard connection from Dennis Riordan (New City, N.Y.) to Haven Marascio (Cape Canaveral, Fla.), setting up a 29-yard touchdown reception from Latrell Willis (Warwick, N.Y.) to get the Blue and White on the board.
The Pioneers responded with a scoring drive and a successful onside kick, putting up back-to-back touchdowns. Hartwick mounted a lengthy drive, but a costly turnover at the seven-yard line stifled momentum. Alfred State added one more score before halftime, sending the Hawks into the break trailing 7–34.
The third quarter quieted after a combined 41 points in the first half, with Alfred State posting the lone touchdown on a one-yard rush to cap a six-play drive. Hartwick showed resilience in the fourth, led by Eli Brown-Kendrick (Endicott, N.Y.) on the ground. Braden Moreau (Ilion, N.Y.) connected twice with Connor Dempsey (Ilion, N.Y.) for end-zone scores before Brown-Kendrick found the end zone to close out Hartwick's effort.
Despite a strong fourth-quarter push, the Hawks fell on the road in a tough conference battle against Alfred State.
