Hawks Coast to Senior Day Triumph Over Gators

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hartwick Women's Tennis team honored their four seniors in style, shutting down the Russell Sage Gators with their fourth consecutive conference sweep on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hartwick Women's Tennis team continued its dominant Empire 8 run with a commanding sweep over Russell Sage, not dropping a single game in the match.

Prior to first serve, the Hawks honored their four seniors—Maggie Van Valkenburgh (Highland, N.Y.), Maddi Morrison (Burnt Hills, N.Y.), Lily Vanuga (Springville, N.Y.), and Phoebe Olson (Jamestown, N.Dak.)—who have combined for more than 100 career victories, three regular season titles, and two Empire 8 championships, with a chance to add another this season.

The Hawks wasted no time in doubles action. With a Sage forfeit at No. 3, Samantha Lantzy (Valatie, N.Y.) and Vanuga rolled to a 6-0 win at No. 2. Gianna Leggieri (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) and Olson matched the scoreline with a flawless win at No. 1 to secure the doubles point.

Singles play was equally one-sided as the seniors put on a show in their final regular season home conference contest. Olson, Vanuga, Van Valkenburgh, and Morrison all collected straight-set wins without conceding a game, sealing Hartwick's perfect day.

The sweep not only reflects the depth of Hartwick's lineup but also underscores the impact of its senior class, whose leadership and consistent success have been the backbone of the program.

 

UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS

The Hawks will head to Houghton for a 2PM matchup with the Highlanders on Saturday, October 4th.
