HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Hartwick Women's Tennis team continues to roll through Empire 8 conference play, downing the Highlanders with their fifth consecutive 7-0 sweep on Saturday afternoon at Houghton University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hartwick Women's Tennis team kept its perfect Empire 8 record intact, rolling past Houghton University with a commanding 7-0 sweep on the road. The victory marked the Hawks' third straight conference win away from home and extended their flawless conference resume.

The Hawks once again set the tone in doubles action. The league's winningest tandem of Samantha Lantzy (Valatie, N.Y.) and Lily Vanuga (Springville, N.Y.) blanked their opponents at No.2, while the pairing of Maggie Van Valkenburgh (Highland, N.Y.) and Maddi Morrison (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) secured the doubles point with a 6-2 win. At the top spot, Phoebe Olson (Jamestown, N.Dak.) and Gianna Leggieri (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) handled pressure with poise, posting a 6-3 decision to sweep doubles play.

Singles saw more dominance from the Blue and White. Vanuga turned in another spotless performance, not dropping a game at No.3. Morrison followed suit at No.6 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory before Leggieri turned in a flawless result at No.4. Van Valkenburgh sealed Hartwick's seventh straight Empire 8 win by dispatching Houghton's Martinez, 6-1, 6-1.

At the top courts, Lantzy delivered in a battle with Sage Brinckerhoff, edging the first set 6-4 before cruising in the second, 6-1. Olson capped off the sweep with a straight-sets win at No.2.

With the victory, Hartwick has now collected all 35 possible points in its last five conference matches, continuing an extraordinary run of dominance in league play.
