Hawks' First-Years Shine in 3-0 Conference Victory Over Wolves

ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Hawks stood out in a dominant 3-0 conference victory over the Keuka College Wolves, with several first-years headlining in impressive plays.

  • Location: Oneonta, N.Y. | Elmore Field

BY THE NUMBERS

  • The first-years of the Hawks had a great day for goals, with Benji Griffiths (St. Andrew, Jamaica) earning his first collegiate goal and Mathieu Six (Antwerp, Belgium) tallying two.

  • Devin Chandler (Wylie, Tex.) was also instrumental in the Hawks' offense, having tallied assists on both goals from Six.

  • The Hawks played ruthlessly, outshooting the Wolves 23-1 and snagging 7 corner kicks compared to the Wolves' 1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

'Wick set the pace early as they quickly capitalized off a Keuka offside call early in the contest. From there, Six made a stellar goal off an assist from Chandler in just the 3rd minute, bringing the Hawks up 1-0. Despite a battle in the midfield, the Hawks dominated possession, stacking up twelve shots in the first half while Keuka struggled to get on the board. However, the Wolves were able to hold off the Royal Blue and White until the second half.

In the 53rd minute, Griffiths would show off some speed, taking the ball up the field into the defensive zone and burying a shot for his first collegiate goal. Wilson Mount was also a force to be reckoned with on the offensive end, making up four shots in the second half alone. As the second half began to wind down, the Hawks' momentum only built as consecutive corner kicks allowed Six and Chandler to combine for another great goal, this time a header from inside the box.

Keuka finally managed to put a shot on the board within the final two minutes of play, though it would not be enough to garner a goal. The game concluded with a Hawks 3-0 conference victory.

The Hawks will travel to Elmira College where they will take on the Soaring Eagles at 6 PM on Wednesday, October 8th.
