HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hartwick Women's Soccer team continues their hot stretch into the heart of conference play, taking down the Soaring Eagles for three critical points in the jampacked Empire 8 standings.

'Wick set the tone early, earning a corner kick in the first minute as they looked to strike. Olivia Farnham (Millerton, N.Y.) rocketed in the first tally of the game in the ninth minute, slipping the entry pass from Jenna Mierek (Prospect, Conn.) past the outstretched keeper. Ella Grupe (Freehold, N.Y.) nearly doubled the lead with a wonderful strike from outside the 18 but a good save from the Elmira keeper kept the lead at one. The Hawks continued to swarm the Elmira defense and pressure the Soaring Eagle backline with a barrage of shots.  A cross into the box from Mierek would be stuffed by Elmira but Sara Moore (East Granby, Conn.) was in prime position, slotting the rebound into the left corner of the goal from just outside the box to put the Hawks up two. The Blue and White would find the back of the net once more before the end of the half, with Mierek picking up her second assist. Jenna Mierek pinpointed an entry pass into the box, finding Addyson Galuski (Waterford, N.Y.) who buried it to end the Hawks' best half yet.

Elmira tried to formulate some offense themselves, generating the final shot of the half but found the gloves of Mikayla Piersa (Huntington, N.Y.) to head into the second half. The Soaring Eagles tried to dictate the pace, picking up two corners and a shot on goal but the 'Wick defense was able to stand tall. The Hawks returned the favor with pressure of their own, marching down field as Ella Grupe (Freehold, N.Y.) connected with Millie Caldon (Gilmanton, N.H.) finding the back of the net, swelling the lead to four in the 52nd minute. The Blue and White would record one final score, displaying their set piece prowess once again. Jenna Mierek set a ball into the box, finding Farnham for the fifth goal. Coach Knapp's squad would hold on the final twenty minutes, picking up one of their most complete victories this season.

COMMENTS FROM HEAD COACH BRIAN KNAPP
"We've been talking all season about the strides we've made as a team and where we still want to go. While the results don't always show it, only we know what we are doing every day in training and in the weight room and when we put it all together and what we are capable of. Today was a day where we went out and really showed it. We got off on the front foot and never let up. I'm proud of the way we played, the goals we finished, and another clean sheet on the way to three points. The team should be proud of their effort and the result."

UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
The Hawks will prepare to defend home field against the Houghton Highlanders on Saturday, October 11th at 1PM.
