HOW IT HAPPENED
Hartwick closed out the final game of the Spartan Classic against the University of Maine–Farmington, aiming to finish the tournament unblemished. The Beavers came out firing, opening on a 7-0 run before the Hawks settled in as Jess Bowens (Mechanicville, N.Y.) knocked down a pair of free throws to get 'Wick on the board. Emma Cohen (Utica, N.Y.) pulled the Hawks within two with her first triple of the afternoon, but a surge of UMF offense—fueled by Hartwick's own miscues—sent the Beavers into the second quarter holding a double-digit cushion.
Maine–Farmington continued to generate offense, yet the Hawks refused to fold. Cohen and Macy Durkin (Syracuse, N.Y.) worked tirelessly inside, chipping away with strong finishes in the paint, while Ryleigh Endres (Niskayuna, N.Y.) and Leah Schoonover (Fredericksburg, Va.) connected from deep to keep the pressure on. Hartwick delivered its most productive quarter out of the break, matching the Beavers with 20 points behind Endres' perimeter shooting and a boost inside from Kylie Guarino (Auburn, N.Y.), who made her presence felt down low.
'Wick mounted a late push in the fourth in hopes of a comeback, but the early deficit proved too steep as the Hawks wrapped up the Spartan Classic with a hard-fought effort that showcased resilience and balanced scoring despite the slow start.
