FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Hartwick men's swimming and diving team pieced together an impressive weekend performance, placing fourth out of eight programs at Fredonia's Blue Devil Invite.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hartwick men kicked off the Blue Devil Invite with the first finals event of the weekend, the 200-yard freestyle relay. The quartet of Bryce Rogers (Fulton, N.Y.), Conor Barry (Clifton Park, N.Y.), Badr Aly (East Syracuse, N.Y.), and Hassan Abdelwahed (New Hartford, N.Y.) secured a fourth-place finish in 1:29.35, with Penn State Behrend taking the win.
In the 500-yard freestyle, Cameron Drake (El Cajon, Cal.) delivered a standout swim, finishing second at 4:47.62—just one second behind Saint Vincent's top performer. The Hawks closed out Day One with the 400-yard medley relay, where Rogers, Drake, Abdelwahed, and Karim Mohamed (New Hartford, N.Y.) posted a 3:45.26, placing Hartwick fourth after the opening day.
Day Two brought a surge of momentum for the Blue and White. Conor Barry (Clifton Park, N.Y.) opened the session with a strong fourth-place finish in the 400 IM (4:29.69), just two seconds shy of the podium. Hartwick claimed its first event win of the meet soon after, as Bryce Rogers (Fulton, N.Y.) touched first in the 100-yard butterfly, clocking a sharp 52.14.
Drake kept Hartwick rolling with a commanding victory in the 200-yard freestyle, posting a 1:46.09 finish—three seconds clear of the field. The Hawks capped the day with a statement win in the 800-yard freestyle relay, as Drake, Barry, Rogers, and Mahdi Behniaye (Hannibal, Mo.) combined for a 7:18.10 finish to seal a dominant Day Two.
Looking to climb from fourth entering the final day, the Hawks opened Day Three with another podium performance. Cameron Drake (El Cajon, Cal.) placed third in the 1650-yard freestyle, finishing at 16:49.89—three seconds off Penn State Behrend and nine behind Saint Vincent's winner. In the 200-yard butterfly, Rogers nearly added another gold, finishing in 1:59.68, just shy of first place at 1:59.17.
Hartwick closed out the Invite with a dramatic 400-yard freestyle relay, where Rogers, Barry, Behniaye, and Drake clocked a 3:17.63. Behrend edged them at the wall in 3:17.35, taking third by less than three tenths.
The Hawks wrapped the Blue Devil Invite with multiple event wins, numerous top-four finishes, and strong momentum heading into the next stretch of their season.
