HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hawks traveled to Morrisville for a non-conference matchup with the Mustangs, with both squads looking to rebound from recent cold streaks.

Yadi Smith (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) set the tone early, opening the game with a three-pointer before adding a driving finish and a free throw. Jess Bowens (Mechanicville, N.Y.) continued the interior pressure as both teams traded early blows. Free throws were pivotal in the tight first quarter, with Hartwick going 5–6 at the line while Morrisville answered with a 6–7 effort.

The Mustangs extended their one-point lead to start the second quarter with back-to-back baskets. Hartwick responded with a five-point burst as Macy Durkin (Syracuse, N.Y.) pushed the tempo, finding Bowens inside and Emma Cohen (Utica, N.Y.) for her first triple. The lead changed hands twice before Morrisville closed the half strong, taking a six-point advantage into the break.

The Hawks wasted no time in the third, as Cohen and Durkin drilled threes to tie the game before Cohen buried another to give Hartwick its first lead since the opening period. Morrisville answered with a run of its own, but Durkin kept the Hawks within striking distance with timely finishes. Ryleigh Endres (Niskayuna, N.Y.) was steady at the stripe, knocking down four straight before Smith scored in the paint to give Hartwick a brief edge. Despite shooting 50% in the period, eight turnovers prevented the Hawks from building separation, holding just a one-point lead heading into the fourth.

Morrisville opened the final frame with a seven-point surge, but back-to-back threes from Endres steadied the Hawks, restoring their one-point advantage. The Mustangs regained control with 5:30 remaining and held on the rest of the way. Hartwick closed the gap to two in the final minutes but couldn't complete the comeback, falling just short on the road.

UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
The Hawks will head to Buffalo State, matching up with the Bengals on Tuesday, December 2nd at 5PM.
