HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Hartwick Track and Field teams opened their seasons at the Houghton December Classic, highlighted by Cody Bazemore crushing two school records in the 200 meter and long jump events on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hawks opened their indoor season with a sharp showing at the Houghton December Classic, hosted by conference foe Houghton University. The meet kicked off with the women's 5K, where Brynita Haas (Red Creek, N.Y.) delivered a strong fourth-place finish in 20:04, locking in an Empire 8 Indoor Championship qualifier to start her season.
The men followed suit with an early highlight from Patrick Conteh (Salisbury, Md.). Conteh posted a 7.3 in the 60-meter dash, securing his own Empire 8 qualifying mark and setting the tone for the Hawks' sprint group.
Sophomore standout Cody Bazemore (Bel Air, Md.) wasted no time making noise, opening his season by rewriting the record book twice. He placed fourth in a highly competitive 200-meter field, featuring Division I talent from the University at Buffalo, clocking a 22.4 to break the program record. The effort would earn him an AARTFC regional qualifier, and secure another Empire 8 berth. Bazemore then carried that momentum into the long jump, soaring 22'11.25" to shatter a second program record while also picking up both an AARTFC regional qualifier and an Empire 8 qualifying mark in the event.
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
The Hawks will return to action on January 10th for the Southern Tier Invite, hosted by Cornell University.
