WEBSTER, N.Y. - The Hartwick Swim and Dive team wrapped up their second day of competition at the 2024-25 Empire 8 Championship, posting strong performances at the halfway mark.

The Women opened Day Two of the E8 Championship with two Hawks qualifying for the 400 IM finals. Danielle DeCarlo (Whitesboro, N.Y.) and Min-Syun Chen (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) booked their spots with respective times of four minutes and forty seconds and four minutes and fifty seven seconds.

Matthew Cole (Wolcott, N.Y.) and Topher Fitzpatrick (Massapequa, N.Y.) earned their way into the 400 IM finals as well at 6th and 8th place respectively.

Bryce Rogers (Fulton, N.Y.) represented the Men's squad in the 100 yard butterfly, posting a qualifying mark of 51.03 seconds in a tight race, being edged out by less than .50 seconds of first place, taking third.

The Men's 200 yard freestyle marked the end of the preliminary round, Cameron Drake (El Cajon, Cal.) and Evan Nezat (Jacksonville, N.C.) punched their ticket to the finals. Drake and Nezat battled their way to the finish line in an intense race, Drake clocked in at 1:45 while Nezat timed in at 1:46 as the top 8 swimmers were separated by a second or less.

DeCarlo opened the afternoon finals session with a third place finish in the 400 IM final, posting a final mark of four minutes and forty seconds.

Cole placed sixth in the 400 IM to open the finals session for the Men, starting the Hawks with some points.

Hartwick kept rolling as they looked to chip away at the Geneseo lead with Bryce Rogers securing a top five finish in the 100 yard butterfly, clocking in at 51.48 seconds.

The final round of the 200 freestyle proved to be just as contested as the preliminary round with all eight swimmers neck and neck, Drake and Nezat finished back to back, claiming 6th and 7th, falling just two seconds behind a cluster of Geneseo Knights.Â

Annabelle Lindsay (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) made her postseason debut, picking up a 6th place finish in the one meter diving event with a score of 349.90.

The Women capped off their second day of competition with the 200 yard freestyle relay, securing fifth place. Aubrey Vaile (Wesley Chapel, Fla.), Jillian Ferrie (Middle Grove, N.Y.), Bree Dy (Matawan, N.J.), and Cate Russo (San Pedro, Cal.) clocked in at one minute and forty one seconds.

Hassan Abdelwahed (New Hartford, N.Y.), Sebastian Knowles (Plano, TX), Rogers and Nezat capped off their night with a second place finish in the 200 yard medley relay, combining for a mark of one minute and twenty six seconds.

Through two days of competition for the Women, Geneseo leads with 569 points, Naz follows with 262, Brockport sits in third with 261, Hartwick ranks fourth with 254 and Alfred rounds out the standings with 159 points.

On the Men's side, Geneseo leads with 558 points, Hartwick remains in second with 276, Brockport takes third with 210, Alfred ranks fourth with 194 points and Nazareth sits in fifth with 181 points.

Hartwick will begin Day Three of the Empire 8 Championships with the 200 butterfly prelim set for 10 AM on Friday, February 21st.
