WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Hawks prepared for their 2025 season opener, matching up versus the Oswego Lakers, picking up an 11-10 victory in their last matchup, exactly one year ago.

  • Hartwick set the tone from the starting whistle, working their way down field and generating two shots on goal in the first two minutes.

  • Spencer Hogaboom (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) put the scoreboard operator to work, firing a missile past the Oswego keeper for the first goal of the contest at the 12 minute mark.

  • Oswego settled in and rang off three consecutive goals over the next five minutes as the Hawks stumbled.

  • The Royal Blue and White got back on track with Colin August (Garrison, N.Y.) taking the dish from Taharihwakohe Lazore (Hogansburg, N.Y.) and ripped it past the keeper for the score.

  • The Lakers put one more up on the scoreboard before the Hawks closed out the first quarter with Colby Simonetti (Pittsford, N.Y.) spotting a cutting Luke Ward (Attleboro, Mass.), setting him up with the assist as Ward snuck one into the back of the net.

  • As the second quarter got underway, the first seven minutes saw the two squads battling, vying for possession as they looked to get the upper hand on one another as Oswego protected their slim one goal lead.

  • Oswego was the first to strike in the second quarter, finding two goals in under a minute.

  • The Lakers pushed their lead to four before Simonetti was able to break the run, connecting on his first goal of the season.

  • Matthew LoCasto (Floral Park, N.Y.) fired in his first goal of the season as Ward was able to connect with LoCasto for the assist to end the first half with the Hawks down two goals.

  • With the second half ready to begin, 'Wick was determined to work their way back into the contest and halt the Lakers attack.

  • Garrett Frost (Wading River, N.Y.) injected his fellow Hawks with a newfound energy, connecting on a rocket that found the back of the net in the opening minute.

  • Frost kept rolling, taking the dish from LoCasto and firing it past the keeper's outstretched stick to knot the game up at seven with 12 minutes remaining.

  • First year attacker Mason Adams (Delmar, N.Y.) came up big with his first collegiate goal, splitting defenders and rising up for the score, taking the lead in the first minute of the fourth.

  • A caused turnover by Frost turned into instant offense as Lazore connected on his first collegiate goal to push the cushion to two.

  • Oswego cut the lead back down to one before Frost completed his hat-trick to put the Hawks back up two.

  • August was a one man show for his second goal, forcing a turnover and scooping the loose ball.  August then sprinted down field and fired a shot, blazing past the keeper for the score at the nine minute mark.

  • Liam McManus (Skillman, N.J.) connected with August as August knocked down his third goal, completing the hat-trick as the Hawks stretched their lead to four.

  • Oswego connected on goals at the two, three and four minute mark to pull within one with two minutes remaining.

  • The Hawks stood tall in the final two minutes of competition, turning away the Lakers time and time again.

  • The Lakers had an opportunity to craft a final shot with less than a minute left but were swarmed by the stingy Hawk defense as Jakob Day (Palmyra, N.Y.) and Tyler Nocito (Mahopac, N.Y.) were able to force crucial turnovers in the final minute.

  • Kaiden Johnson (Wakefield, Mass.) was rock solid in between the pipes, collecting 17 saves in the contest.
