FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - The Hartwick Men's Lacrosse team hit the road for their first away contest of the season, being handed their first loss by the Rams.

THE BASICS

  • Final Score: Hartwick 8 Farmingdale State 18

  • Location: Farmingdale, N.Y.

  • Records:  Hartwick (1-1, 0-0 Empire 8) Farmingdale State (2-2, 0-0 Skyline)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Hawks set the tone early as Liam Downey (Blue Point, N.Y.) battled his counterpart in the circle, winning the opening possession.

  • Garrett Frost (Wading River, N.Y.) made quick work of the Rams' defense, running down the field and rifling his first shot of the day past the keeper for the opening score, 37 seconds in.

  • Matthew LoCasto (Floral Park, N.Y.) used his speed to slice through the heart of the Farmingdale back line, connecting on his first shot attempt to put the Hawks up two.

  • The Rams began to piece it together, scoring their first goal at the nine minute mark.

  • Colin August (Garrison, N.Y.) put the Hawks back up two with some fancy stick work, scooping up a ground ball and weaving his way through traffic. August rose up and snuck one over the keeper's shoulder for the acrobatic score.

  • Farmingdale grabbed their first lead of the game but it was short lived as LoCasto broke down his opponent and freed himself up by winning the footrace, slinging a shot from the right side for the score to knot the game up at four at the end of the first.

  • With the second quarter underway, the Rams struck first, putting up two scores in the first five minutes.

  • Hartwick conceded three more goals before Cooper Francis (Lynbrook, N.Y.) set up Ty Crowley (Wallkill, N.Y.) for Crowley's first goal of the early season to stop the skid.

  • As the second half action began, the Hawks looked to whittle away at the four goal deficit. Hartwick conceded an early goal but got it right back as Harry Rubin (Portland, Me.) found the back of the net as Taharihwakohe Lazore (Hogansburg, N.Y.) picked up the assist.

  • 'Wick took advantage of the man-up situation as August buried his second goal of the game, as Frost was credited with the assist at the ten minute mark.

  • Farmingdale remained in the driver's seat, ending the third with three more goals as the Hawks entered the fourth by six.

  • August secured his second consecutive hat-trick to open up the fourth quarter as Spencer Hogaboom (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) collected his first assist.

  • The Rams would hold onto their lead for the remainder of the contest as the Hawks were credited with their first loss of the season.
