WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Hartwick geared up for an 11am start against the St. Mary's College of Maryland, matching up with the Seahawks for the first time in program history.

  • A turnover by the Seahawks jump started the offense as the Hawks cleared the ball, making their way down field and got the ball to Katrina Marten (Middlesex, N.Y.) to conduct the offense.

  • Marten worked her way around the back of the net, creating a lane for a cutting Kristen Vaccarelli (Dix Hills, N.Y.) to put it away for the score to strike first, a minute and 20 seconds in.

  • Another successful clear put Hartwick in prime position for back to back scores as Vaccarelli and Kara Anderson (Collingwood, Ont.) executed the give and go to perfection as Vaccarelli picked up her second goal of the day with Anderson collecting her first assist.

  • St. Mary's strung together three goals over the next two minutes to take their first lead of the game, leading to a Hartwick timeout.

  • After the timeout, both defenses turned up the intensity, allowing zero goals for the rest of the first quarter.

  • In the closing seconds of the first quarter, a Seahawk yellow card presented the Hawks with a golden opportunity to tie the match as the team cashed in on their opportunity to open the second quarter. Anderson collected her second assist, connecting with Vaccarelli once again to knot the game at three with the numbers advantage.

  • Soon after, the Seahawks answered back to regain the lead within the same minute. The lead was erased once again as Parker Laurin (Wilton, NY) picked up her first collegiate assist, finding Vaccarelli for her fourth goal of the half, responding to the St. Mary's score swiftly.

  • The Hawks began to fall behind in the final ten minutes of the half, conceding four goals while being held scoreless by the opposition, heading into the second half, down 8-4.

  • St. Mary's opened the second half with a score to extend their lead to five before Laurin put a halt to the Seahawk scoring run, finding the back of the net at the 12:33 mark as Vaccarelli was credited with the assist.

  • Hartwick worked to cut down the lead but the Seahawk offense stayed hot, striking for four goals, grabbing their biggest lead yet. Ashley Ament (Sayreville, N.J.) got the team back on track, connecting on her first goal of the afternoon with five minutes left.

  • Laurin closed out the third with her second goal, taking advantage of the Seahawk green card with Vaccarelli grabbing her second assist, heading into the fourth trailing by eight.

  • The Hawks battled to the end but were unable to erase the St. Mary's deficit, falling to the Seahawks in their first program meeting.
