Hawks Soar Past Raptors as Vaccarelli Rewrites the Record Books

ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Hartwick Women's Lacrosse team picked up their first victory of the early season with a decisive triumph over the Bard Raptors as Kristen Vaccarelli cements herself into the program record books.

THE BASICS

  • Location: Oneonta, N.Y.

  • Records:  Bard (0-3, 0-0 Liberty League) Hartwick (1-1, 0-0 Empire 8)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Hawks prepared for a chilly battle against the Bard Raptors with temperatures below freezing as the Raptors won the opening draw control.

  • Grace Ollendike (Glen Rock, N.J.) cut the Raptors possession short, forcing the turnover and pushed the ball in transition for the clear. The Royal Blue and White looked to strike early as Katrina Marten (Middlesex, N.Y.) possessed the ball behind the net, awaiting a lapse in coverage from their opposition.

  • Marten displayed her deadly accuracy in the passing lanes, squeezing the ball through a tight window, finding Kristen Vaccarelli (Dix Hills, N.Y.) cutting through the defense. Vaccarelli was able to take the pass and slingshot it past the Bard keeper for the first goal of the game in the opening minute.

  • Just a minute later, Vaccarelli moved her way up the record books, taking 9th place with 193 career points, finding the back of the net once again.

  • Hartwick tacked on another goal as a mishap from the Bard keeper resulted in an own goal.

  • Bard took advantage of the numbers situation with a Hawk on the sidelines due to a yellow card, finding their first score of the game at the nine minute mark.

  • The officials were quick to enforce any physicality with cards, 'Wick built off of the Raptor yellow card as Jammie Decker (Penn Yan, N.Y.) put the squad back up three as Marten was credited with the assist.

  • Marten took matters into her own hands with under two minutes left, shaking free from her defender and finding the side netting for her first goal of the early season.

  • After a ten minute intermission due to the cold weather, Bard was determined to work their way back into the contest, striking twice within a minute to shave the 'Wick lead to two.

  • Kara Anderson (Collingwood, Ont.) stopped the Bard scoring run with a beauty of a shot, slotting one into the lower opposite corner from the right wing as Vaccarelli collected her first assist.

  • Bard was quick to answer back, taking the draw control and scoring to draw back within two, just two seconds after the Anderson goal.

  • Vaccarelli secured the hat-trick in the second quarter, scoring back to back goals at the five and six minute mark to give the Hawks some breathing room.

  • Kristen Vaccarelli continued to wreak havoc all over the turf, picking up her second assist, setting up Parker Laurin (Wilton, N.Y.) with the score with three minutes remaining in the half.

  • Hartwick committed a costly foul, allowing Bard to convert on a free position shot but Hanna Goodreau (North Reading, Mass.) quickly pushed the lead back up to five with her first score of the game as Marten picked up her third assist.

  • Anderson secured her second hat-trick in as many games, opening the third quarter with two goals, breaking down the Raptor defense on her own.

  • The Hawks continued to soar all over the field as Vaccarelli continued to lead the charge offensively, scoring her fifth goal of the day. Vaccarelli picked up a fancy assist, finding Anderson open in the middle as Kara fired a shot from behind her back, putting the Hawks up nine with a pretty play.

  • With eight minutes left in the third quarter, Vaccarelli became just the ninth Hawk in program history to amass 200 career points with her sixth goal after the day, securing the double hat-trick.

  • Decker won the ensuing draw control and pushed down the field, Maura Donoghue (Paramus, N.J.) ripped her first goal of the season into the top netting as 'Wick increased it's lead to double digits.

  • Anderson returned the favor to Vaccarelli, setting her up with the dish as Vaccarelli grabbed her seventh goal of the day with six minutes left, moving into 9th all-time in career goals.

  • Kara Anderson capped off her stellar third quarter with another goal, collecting her fourth goal in the quarter at the four minute mark.

  • Marten continued to work her magic, conducting the offense to their 19th goal with her fourth assist as Laurin collected her second goal of the night.

  • Vaccarelli continued to stuff the record books, setting the single game record for most points in a game, posting her 11th point on a career high eight goal. Kristen has connected for at least 7 goals in a single game in every year of her decorated career so far.

  • The fourth quarter was opened with a free-position goal from Goodreau, picking up her second goal of the day.

  • Katrina Marten ended her stellar day with her second goal of the day as first year Sofia Jaworovich (Skillman, N.J.) picked up her first collegiate point, being credited with the assist.

  • Jaworovich didn't stop there after Ava Reynolds (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) won the ensuing draw control, Sofia cut through the Bard defense and fired a bullet into the top of the net for her first collegiate goal to cap off the scoring.

  • The Hawks were dominant on both sides of the field with Vaccarelli, Marten, and Anderson leading the charge on offense. Brianna Liebro (Castleton, N.Y.), Regan Kelly (Warwick, N.Y.), Tess DiNanno (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Ollendike commanded the back-line with great success, locking down the Raptors to zero second half goals and combining for seven caused turnovers and 12 ground balls.

  • Marten was a pest on defense, tying for tenth all-time with four caused turnovers in a single game.
