WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Hartwick prepared for the opening draw control on short rest, coming off a stellar 23-5 triumph over Bard College the day before.

  • Kristen Vaccarelli (Dix Hills, N.Y.) won the ensuing draw control and worked her way down the field with urgency. Vaccarelli sliced her way through the Pioneer defense and fired her first goal of the day to put the Hawks ahead.

  • With momentum, the Hawks looked to keep rolling, forcing a Smith green card for the numbers advantage. Vaccarelli spotted a cutting Hanna Goodreau (North Reading, Mass.), dishing the ball off as Goodreau finished the job, scoring her first goal at the eight minute mark.

  • Smith put one more goal up on the board with three minutes left but the Royal Blue and White scored the final goal of the first quarter via a missile from Parker Laurin (Wilton, N.Y.) as Vaccarelli picked up her second assist.

  • As the second quarter began, the Pioneers struck first again with a goal to pull with one. Just twenty seconds later, Maura Donoghue (Paramus, N.J.) found the back of the for the Hawks to keep the lead at two with the assist from Marten.

  • The Hawks continued to fend off the Pioneer attack for as long as they could as Smith knotted the game up at five with five minutes and thirty seconds left in the first half. 'Wick worked swiftly once again as Goodreau picked up her second goal of the day, twenty seconds later.

  • The seesaw affair continued as the tie would be broken one more time as Goodreau secured her first hat trick of the season with four minutes left. Smith tied the contest for the third time to end the half deadlocked at seven.

  • Vaccarelli broke the draw three minutes into the third, scoring her second goal of the contest as the Hawks retook their lead.

  • Smith took control of the lead with back to back goals, going up 9-8 with five minutes remaining. Kara Anderson (Collingwood, Ont.) took the clear from a failed Pioneer attack and breezed her way through the defense, sneaking one past the keeper in a man-down situation.

  • Turnover trouble for the Hawks turned out to be costly as Smith struck for two goals in the final minute of the third as Hartwick entered the fourth reeling.

  • The fourth quarter opened in favor of Smith as a foul led to a free position goal for the Pioneers, taking a three goal lead.

  • Anderson clipped the deficit down to two, striking for her second goal of the game as the team looked to rally.
