The Hawks honored their graduating seniors at today's game, the seven of them being Brianna Liebro (Castleton, N.Y.), Katrina Marten (Middlesex, N.Y.), Teresa DiNanno (Lynnfield, Mass.), Grace Ollendike (Glen Rock, N.J.), Hanna Goodreau (North Reading, Mass.), Kara Anderson (Collingwood, Ont.), and Kristen Vaccarelli (Dix Hills, N.Y.).
-
It was the Saxons who struck first in the contest, winning the first draw and landing a free position goal less than a minute into the game.
-
However, Hannah Goodreau would find Jammie Decker (Penn Yan, N.Y.) on the cut, with Decker putting one on the board for the Hawks. The assist would go to Goodreau.
-
A few minutes later, Kristen Vaccarelli would navigate through multiple defenders to sneak one past the Alfred goalie, snagging her first goal of the game.
-
With pressure now building, the Saxons grew more aggressive on the defensive and in the transitions, opting for double-team defense. However, they still struggled to regain their footing against the Hawks' offense.
-
Two Alfred green cards and possession for Hartwick spelled trouble for the Saxons as Kara Anderson found the back of the net for a man-up goal.
-
After a timeout by Alfred, Brianna Liebro won possession off the draw, sending it down the field for Katrina Marten to snag her first assist of the game after a beautiful pass to Anderson.
-
The Hawks would increase their lead by netting another straight off the draw, crediting Goodreau and Marten with a goal and assist, respectively.
-
As the first period came to a close, Alfred was able to capitalize on another free position opportunity.
-
A Hawks green card gave the Saxons a scoring advantage, but a caused turnover by Liebro would instead give Marten the momentum to navigate around the crease and get another past the goalie, securing a man-down goal.
-
The second period was populated by green and yellow cards from both teams, though the first goal of the second would be for the Hawks at even-strength by Goodreau, once again assisted by Marten.
-
The Hawks exploded with even more energy after a brief Hawks timeout, with Vaccarelli splitting her defenders and driving in front of the net for an unassisted goal.
-
Less than thirty seconds later, Anderson would tally a hat trick with her third goal of the game.
-
The Saxons would soon capitalize on a Hawks green card and yet another free-position shot to secure a man-up goal.
-
Vaccarelli would not take this lightly, as she replied back with her own man-up free position goal only a minute or so later.
-
The Saxons would soon be faced with another Anderson goal after a defensive mistake left her unmarked with an open field in front of her.
-
More cards plagued Alfred as Anderson dodged a defender off the man-up free-position attempt, finding the back of the net yet again.
-
'Wick entered the second half with a commanding 9-goal lead, soon putting Alexa Patrakis (Wilbraham, Mass.) in goal.
-
Hartwick momentum refuses to die down, with Vaccarelli putting another on the board less than two minutes into the start of the third period, triggering a running game clock.
-
Anderson would also snag another two goals for the Hawks, one of which was assisted by Marten.
-
The Saxons would remain scoreless, earning Patrakis a shutout period. Consecutive yellow and green cards immediately given to Alfred would open the final period with Hartwick possession.
-
Vaccarelli would weave past her defenders, earning two more goals in the fourth, one off of a free position attempt.
-
The Saxons, however, would refuse to be shut out in the second half, earning a goal with less than five minutes left in the contest. The attempt would be futile, however, with Ashley Ament (Sayreville, N.J.) grabbing a goal immediately afterwards.
-
Anderson would end the game with her eighth goal of the day, a season-high, assisted by Vaccarelli.
-
The seniors truly shined this game, with Liebro forcing 4 caused turnovers anad managing 6 draw controls; Marten snagging 4 assists and a goal; DiNanno challenging the Saxons offense at every turn; Ollendike corralling 3 ground balls, Goodreau with 3 points; Anderson with a near-perfect 8 goals off 9 shots; and Vaccarelli with 7 points and 7 ground balls.
-
Brooke Lynett (Acton, Mass.) and Patrakis were also a dynamic duo in goal, the both of them combined only allowing four goals and tallying seven saves.
The Hawks will take on the SUNY Polytechnic Institute Wildcats in a conference away game on Wednesday, April 26th.
