Hawks set the pace for the game early with Kristen Vaccarelli (Dix Hills, N.Y.), winning the first draw control. Kara Anderson (Collingwood, Ont.) would put the first goal on the board within 30 seconds of the first draw.
-
Kean looked to capitalize on a woman-up opportunity after Anderson received a yellow card, but the Hawks defense proved to be too much as a ground ball followed by a goal by Parker Laurin (Wilton, N.Y.) brought them back on the offensive.
-
A yellow card by the Cougars gave Vaccarelli a man-up free position shot to make the score 0-3.
-
Kean responded with a new urgency, securing the draw control while multiple Hartwick fouls gave them a goal off the free position shot.Â
-
Despite two more consecutive Kean yellow cards, the Cougars would snag another goal to gain on the Hawks' lead.
-
However, with less than 20 seconds remaining in the first period, Vacarelli would sneak her second goal of the game past Kean's keeper.
-
The second quarter proved a little tougher for the Hawks as consecutive turnovers would lead to another Kean goal.
-
With less than 9 minutes remaining in the first half, 'Wick utilized their first time out in hopes to recollect themselves and reignite their momentum.
-
For the next three minutes, both teams took turns turning the ball over until Hawks gained possession, with Vaccarelli collecting another goal for the hat trick thanks to an assist by Katrina Marten (Middlesex, N.Y.).
-
In a feat eerily similar to Vaccarelli's in the first period, the Cougars would snag a goal in the final 20 seconds, ending the first half with a score of 4-5.
-
Kean takes the draw control to open the second half, but a turnover soon brings the Hawks back towards the offensive zone. Only a minute and a half in, Anderson would widen the gap back to a two-goal lead.
-
However, both a green card and a foul for the Hawks would grant the Cougars the opportunity to claw their way back from the deficit with a man-up goal and a free position goal, tying the game for the first time.
-
Anderson did not take this lightly, securing her own hat trick less than a minute later off a quick assist from Vaccarelli.
-
After a hard-fought draw control, Kean would quickly tie the game again. Hartwick would soon make a goalie switch, allowing Alexa Patrakis (Wilbraham, Mass.) to see her first action of the day.
-
A yellow card for Maura Donoghue (Paramus, N.J.) was expected to give the Hawks some trouble, but a caused turnover and ground ball by Ava Reynolds (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) would put the Hawks back in the offensive zone.
-
A yellow card on the Cougars would even out the number of players on the field for a brief time, so the Hawks wisely let their own penalty clock run to gain the man-up opportunity. 'Wick was man-up for only one second before a Laurin goal with the assist from Marten. At this time, the Hawks brought back Brooke Lynett (Acton, Mass.) in goal.
-
Still man-up, 'Wick was able to take advantage of another free-position shot by Vaccarelli to end the third period up by two.
-
Both teams struggled to gain their footing as the last period unfolded, but Kean remained undeterred, finally snagging another goal to make the score 9-8.
-
However, consecutive Vaccarelli goals off two more free-position attempts made a Cougars comeback nearly impossible. Vaccarelli would be 4-5 on free position attempts in this game alone. She also closes in on 200 career goals, currently sitting at 198.
-
Teresa DiNanno (Lynnfield, Mass.) was also a standout on the defensive, intercepting two midair passes in the fourth quarter alone.
-
Kean tried utilizing their speed for one last offensive push, snagging one last goal, but with 'Wick dominating the final draw, there was no way for the Cougars to recover.
-
Lynett in goal would tally nine impressive saves this game.
-
Brianna Liebro (Castleton, N.Y.) continues to disrupt opposing teams at a high rate, collecting a career high six caused turnovers as she continues to work her way up the Division III leaderboard, coming in at 13th before the start of the contest and bound to move up once again after a stellar performance.

The Hawks return to conference play with a road contest against the Nazareth Golden Flyers on Saturday, April 5th at 1PM.
