Women's Lacrosse Defeated by Nazareth in Road Matchup

ROCHESTER, NY - The Hartwick Hawks Women's Lacrosse team went head to head with the Golden Flyers at NLPA Field on Saturday afternoon, falling to Nazareth University in conference play.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Hawks got back on the road for their second conference away game, matching up with one of three remaining undefeated teams in conference play in the Nazareth Golden Flyers.

  • The opening draw control went in favor of the Royal Blue and White as Kara Anderson (Collingwood, Ont.) was able to secure possession and find Katrina Marten (Middlesex, N.Y.).

  • Marten quickly spotted a cutting Parker Laurin (Wilton, N.Y.) who found the back of the net just 19 seconds in for the opening score.

  • Nazareth equalized the score with eleven minutes and 41 seconds left on the clock and didn't look back, stringing together five more goals over the course of the first quarter.

  • Kristen Vaccarelli (Dix Hills, N.Y.) put an end to the Golden Flyer run, connecting on her first goal of the game with 13 seconds left to conclude the first with the team trailing by four goals.

  • The Golden Flyers opened the second quarter with three goals in three minutes, however a green card would halt their momentum.

  • Hartwick got back in the score column with Marten picking up her second assist, finding Anderson as she rifled one past the keeper for her first goal at the 10:28 mark with the numbers advantage.

  • Vaccarelli made it two in a row for the Hawks, displaying some fancy footwork by stutter stepping past her defender, freeing herself and firing a missile to the lower right corner of the goal, collecting her 200th career goal.

  • The Hawks struggled to contain the Nazareth attack, conceding four goals over the final six minutes of the first half.

  • With the second half underway, Nazareth tacked on two more goals in the first three minutes.

  • Anderson connected on her first free-position goal this season, executing in the woman-up situation once again.

  • Kara Anderson secured the hat-trick in the fourth quarter as Vaccarelli was credited with the assist. Vaccarelli secured a hat-trick as well, connecting on the free-position goal with seven minutes remaining.

  • Katrina Marten connected on her first goal of the contest with four minutes remaining but the Hawks could not muster enough offense, running out of time to mount a comeback.

  • Kristen Vaccarelli adds another impressive milestone to her decorated career, becoming just the sixth Hawk in program history to eclipse 200 career goals.

  • Brianna Liebro (Castleton, N.Y.) continues to cause havoc on defense,  causing at least five turnovers for the fourth time this season. Liebro came into the contest ranked third in Division III, averaging 3.62 caused turnovers.

The Hawks will stay on the road, heading to Russell Sage for a 4PM draw against the Gators on Wednesday, April 9th.
