Softball Drops Two to Brockport in Weekend Series

ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Hawks drop two conference games to the Brockport Golden Eagles at home on Saturday.

THE BASICS

  • Game 1 Score: SUNY Brockport 7 Hartwick 0

  • Game 2 Score: SUNY Brockport 12 Hartwick 1

  • Location: Oneonta, N.Y.

  • Records: SUNY Brockport (13-19, 5-13 Empire 8) Hartwick (6-28, 1-15 Empire 8)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Brockport would put one run on the board in the first inning to start off Game 1, while the Hawks couldn't get their footing.

  • In the third inning, the Golden Eagles really took off, snagging five runs off of five hits.

  • Jessica Betts (South Glens Falls, NY) would be the Hawks' first hit of the day in the third with a single down the left side, though she would be out at second.

  • Ashlee Stevens (Knox, NY) would also make it to first, but would be left stranded on base.

  • Through the rest of the game, Brockport would gather another 5 hits and 1 more run, shutting out the Hawks in Game 1.

GAME TWO

  • Brockport would come out of the gate hot once more in Game 2, scoring off a wild pitch after a double and a stolen base would land a Golden Eagle on third.

  • The Golden Eagles would collect another two runs in the second, one off a sacrifice fly to right field, and one off a wild pitch.

  • Samantha Moore (Mamaroneck, NY) was a standout in the second inning, collecting her fifth home run of the season and putting the Hawks on the board for the first time all day.

  • Brockport would soon respond with another four runs to increase their lead to 6.

  • Casey O'Connor (Albany, NY) would tally a single in the fourth, but the Royal Blue and White were unable to capitalize.

  • With the threat of a 5-inning game looming, the Hawks successfully held off the Golden Eagles in the fifth and rolled into the sixth inning.

  • Unfortunately, the momentum only seemed to pick up for the Golden Eagles, as they were able to collect 4 more runs off of 5 hits.

  • Lindsay Zgrodek (Glen Spey, NY) hoped to chip away at the deficit for the Hawks with a hit to left center that would put her on second, but with no other Hawks able to score, the Golden Eagles would soar away with both victories.

UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS

The Hawks will end their season in a conference doubleheader finale at home against the SUNY Geneseo Knights on Sunday, April 27th at 1PM and 3PM.
