HOW IT HAPPENED
The Knights peppered the Hartwick goal with shots out of the gate, hoping to secure their first win of the season, though the Hawks defense stood tall to block four shots within the first ten minutes alone. Piersa in goal would also add 2 saves to keep the game scoreless in the first half. After nearly 35 minutes, Lily Dempsey (Glenville, N.Y.) would be the first Hawk to post a shot on goal, though a save from the Knights' goalkeeper would stifle 'Wick's attempt to gain the advantage.
The Knights refused to let up in the second half, though nothing would find the net as more shots went off target or thwarted by Piersa. On an offensive assault by the Hawks, Ella Grupe (Freehold, N.Y.) would try to put one on the board, only to be halted by the Geneseo goalkeeper. Jenna Mierek would continue the crusade, taking the Hawk's lone corner kick of the day two minutes later.
By the final ten minutes, both teams were desperate to score, with the Knights posting another 2 shots that would be blocked by Hartwick defenders. In a last ditch-effort with 44 seconds on the clock, Reilly Groff (Monroe, N.Y.) would send a heater toward the Geneseo goal, though it would end up wide. Despite incredible effort on both sides of the field, neither team could muster a goal in a deadlocked draw at 0-0.
