BY THE NUMBERS

  • The Hawks were relentless on offense, tallying up 12 shots in the second half alone and 16 overall. The Bears could only manage 1 in the second half for a total of 5.

  • 7 different Hawks would take shots on the SUNY Potsdam goal today, Millie Caldon (Gilmanton, N.H.) leading the way with 4 shots and 2 on goal.

  • Corner kicks were fairly even, though the Hawks held a 6-5 edge over the visitors.

  • Olivia Farnham (Millerton, N.Y.) made her collegiate debut in goal today, using her height and extensive knowledge of the game to make 2 saves and keep the Bears at 1 goal. In comparison, the SUNY Potsdam goalkeeper would snag 8 saves to stifle the Hawks' scoring attempts.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Today's non-conference match saw Farnham in goal for the Hawks, up against an experienced goalie for the Bears. The Bears kicked off the game and garnered the first corner kick of the match, though they could not capitalize. About eleven minutes later, the Hawks would answer back with their own corner kick, but still kept the game scoreless.

Ella Grupe (Freehold, N.Y.) took the first shot for the Hawks nearly twenty-six minutes in, off the heels of consecutive off-target shots from the Bears. Farnham would also collect her first collegiate save off a heater from a Potsdam forward. However, a smart play off the corner kick would sneak a goal past her to bring the Bears to a 1-0 lead with thirteen minutes to go in the first. Caldon would get a shot off alongside Nelle Slavitsky (Conklin, N.Y.) and Lily Dempsey (Glenville, N.Y.) to close out the half, though the SUNY Potsdam goalie proved to be formidable.

Both teams played evenly matched in terms of corners and shots in the first half, though the Hawks would explode on offense in the second. Sophomore Addyson Galuski (Waterford, N.Y.) and Caldon would combine for four shots on goal in the first ten minutes of second-half play, despite Potsdam snagging several corner kicks. The Royal Blue and White would attack the opposing goal with eight more shots throughout what remained in the final half, rarely giving the Bears any time to even hold onto the ball. Despite the immense effort, the Hawks would end the home contest scoreless with the Bears handing them their first loss of the season.

UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS

The Hawks will return to Empire 8 conference action with a 2 PM road game against the Nazareth Golden Flyers on September 20th.
