HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hawks took to Elmore Field on a lovely Saturday afternoon in an effort to defend their home turf from conference rival, SUNY Brockport. However, the Golden Eagles were ruthless out of the gate, putting up three shots and two goals before the 32nd minute, while the Hawks struggled to get the ball past midfield.
While the Hawks defense did a great job of reading and intercepting passes, Brockport would strike again to put a third up on the board with less than two minutes remaining in the first half. In a desperate effort to avoid giving Brockport a shutout half, Olivia Farnham (Millerton, N.Y.) would make the first Hartwick offensive attempt off a corner kick rebound, though the Brockport keeper would make a low save to hold the Hawks off.
Going into the second, the momentum for the Hawks had clearly built, as they were able to hold possession and push up the field. Caldon and Camryn Montelongo (Thornton, Col.) were able to combine for a total of 3 shots in the first 5 minutes of the second half, though they couldn't find the back of the net. Brockport refused to back down, with their defense stifling several corner kick attempts by the Hawks and managing to push up the field and post another shot, where Piersa would make her lone save of the day.
Despite several more shot attempts from the Hawks and the defense holding the Golden Eagles to a scoreless half, they could not overcome the goal deficit and ultimately received their first conference loss of the season.
