HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hartwick football team faced a difficult road test on Saturday against Brockport, a program that recently dropped out of the Division III top-25 rankings, but one that showed its firepower early in a 56-0 decision.

The Golden Eagles struck on the opening kickoff, returning it 80 yards to the endzone for a quick 7-0 lead. Hartwick looked to respond with an impressive drive sparked by a trick play, as tight end Kyle Trinkle (Monroe, N.Y.) connected with Latrell Willis (Warwick, N.Y.) for 37 yards into Brockport territory. On fourth down, wide receiver Jackson Dorf (Leland, N.C.) extended the drive with a 12-yard completion, but the Blue and White were stopped short when the Golden Eagles came up with an interception inside their own 25-yard line.

Brockport capitalized, marching down the field on a 10-play drive to extend their lead before adding another score on a punt return. By the end of the first quarter, the Golden Eagles had built a commanding advantage. The second quarter saw both teams trade defensive stops, but Brockport's offense broke through once again with a sustained 11-play drive. The hosts would tack on another touchdown before the half, carrying firm control into the break.

The Hawks looked to rally in the second half, but Brockport's defense held strong while its offense continued to finish drives, sealing the result. Despite flashes of creativity and grit early, Hartwick was unable to overcome the first-half deficit against the Empire 8 powerhouse.

UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS

The Hawks will head to Alfred University for a 12PM matchup against the Saxons on Saturday, October 4th.
