Bazemore Blazes to Program-Record 60 as Hawks Open 2026 at Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Hartwick Track and Field teams returned to competition after the break, making solid progress as Cody Bazemore shattered another program record, setting a new mark in the 60 meter at Cornell's Southern Tier Invite.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Coming off a strong showing at the Houghton December Classic, the Hawks returned to action with momentum as Cody Bazemore (Bel Air, Md.) ignited the afternoon in electric fashion. Bazemore blazed to a time of 6.93 seconds in the opening round of the 60-meter dash, setting a program record, besting Division I competition, and securing first place along with an AARTFC qualifying mark. He followed with a third-place finish in the finals, trailing only two Cornell athletes.

Patrick Conteh (Salisbury, Md.) delivered a personal-best performance in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking 9.17 seconds to earn qualification for the Empire 8 Indoor Championships. First-year Hawks Jaiden Deacon (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and Isaiah Sanon (Montebello, N.Y.) also punched their tickets to Empire 8's with strong efforts in the 60-meter dash. Sanon crossed in 7.24 seconds, while Deacon followed closely at 7.28.

In the field events, Noah Curtis (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) led the Blue and White with a personal-best throw of 39 feet, 8¾ inches in the weight throw to qualify for Empire 8's. Joseph Fay (Walton, N.Y.) continued the momentum, improving his mark in the shot put with a throw of 37 feet, 2¼ inches. Jayden Beatty (West Babylon, N.Y.) capped off the day with a strong debut, qualifying for Empire 8's in the shot put with a mark of 36 feet, 6¾ inches.
