NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Hartwick Track and Field teams posted sharp showings at both the Armory and Utica University during this past weekend, moving their way up the conference leaderboards.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Cody Bazemore (Bel Air, Md.) led a strong showing for the Hawks as part of the squad competed at The Armory in New York City, while the remainder of the team headed to Utica for their Winter Opener. Bazemore and first-year Isaiah Sanon (Suffern, N.Y.) made early noise at the highly competitive Ramapo College Opener, both advancing to the finals of the 60-meter dash.
Bazemore secured a fifth-place finish with a time of 7.04 seconds, finishing behind only Division I and II competitors. Sanon followed with a personal-best performance, crossing the line in 7.18 seconds to place seventh. On the Empire 8 leaderboard, Bazemore currently ranks second, while Sanon's new mark moves him into 11th. Sanon capped off his day with a strong showing in the 200-meter dash, posting a 24.01 to rank 20th in the conference. Marquis Jones-McKinney added to the Hawks' success at The Armory by clearing 1.78 meters (5 feet, 10 inches) in the high jump, earning a qualifying mark for the Empire 8 Indoor Championships.
In Utica, Larry McCumiskey (Delhi, N.Y.) highlighted the effort for the Blue and White with an impressive performance in the 5,000 meters, shaving 30 seconds off his personal best to finish in 17:38. First-year Jaiden Deacon (Valley Stream, N.Y.) recorded a collegiate personal best in the 200 meters, clocking a 23.92 to rank 19th in the Empire 8.
Noah Curtis (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) continued to make strides in the weight throw, posting a mark of 42 feet to move into 23rd in the conference. Jayden Beatty (West Babylon, N.Y.) and Joey Fay (Walton, N.Y.) remained competitive in the shot put, with Beatty climbing to 10th in the Empire 8 at 42 feet, 4¾ inches, while Fay moved into 19th with a throw of 39 feet, 3¼ inches. First-year Ayden Burger (Copake, N.Y.) showed steady improvement, recording marks of 35 feet, 4½ inches in the shot put and 37 feet, 2½ inches in the weight throw, placing him within range of Empire 8 qualifying standards. Curtis Jenkins (Cinnaminson, NJ) also edged closer to qualification with a 34 feet, 10½ inches mark in the shot put.
On the women's side, Morgan Branconnier (Malone, N.Y.) led the Hawks with a strong showing in the shot put, posting a mark of 29 feet, ½ inch as she continues to close in on an Empire 8 qualifying standard.
