Hartwick Defeats St. Lawrence in Non-Conference Dual Meet

CANTON, N.Y. – The Hartwick Men's Swimming and Diving team headed to St. Lawrence, prevailing with a dual meet victory over the Saints on Saturday afternoon.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED
Hartwick went head-to-head with St. Lawrence, bouncing back with a strong non-conference win with just one regular-season meet remaining on the schedule.

The Hawks opened the meet with momentum, capturing the 200-yard medley relay by a five second margin. The quartet of Keegan Burkhardt (West Hurley, NY), Badr Aly (East Syracuse, NY), Karim Mohamed (New Hartford, N.Y.), and Conor Barry (Clifton Park, NY) posted a winning time of 1:46.42. Mahdi Behniaye (Hannibal, Mo.) followed with a dominant performance in the 1000-yard freestyle, touching first in 10:47.98.

Burkhardt secured his first individual victory of the day in the 100-yard backstroke, clocking a 59.85 finish. Hassan Abdelwahed (New Hartford, N.Y.) continued the strong showing with a 59.47 performance in the 100-yard breaststroke, while Barry added another win for the Hawks in the 200-yard butterfly.

Hartwick extended its control of the meet as Bryce Rogers (Fulton, N.Y.) captured the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.55. Alex Chapman (Port Crane, NY) earned first place in the one-meter diving event, scoring 192.23 points. Burkhardt completed the backstroke sweep with a victory in the 200-yard backstroke, touching in at 2:12.35.

Abdelwahed followed with another standout swim, claiming the 100-yard butterfly in 54.93. With the meet firmly in hand, the Hawks closed strong as Aidan Page (Schenectady, NY) secured first place in the three-meter diving event with a score of 211.70.

Hartwick capped off the afternoon with a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as Rogers, Barry, Behniaye, and Abdelwahed combined for a winning time of 3:25.88, sealing a 191-87 victory over the Saints.

The Hawks will head to Vassar College for their final regular season meet on Saturday, January 31st at 1PM.
