HOW IT HAPPENED
Men's basketball headed out to Geneseo, NY to face the Knights in Schrader Gymnasium for an Empire 8 conference matchup.
Mike Gitz (Commack, N.Y.) opened the scoring from behind the arc off an assist from
Robby Lucas (Clarks Summit, PA).
Hartwick found early success from long range with
Samaj Barnwell (Stockbridge, GA) and Lucas combining for five three-pointers– accounting for 15 of the team's 35 first-half points. The Hawks shot 50% from three-point range in the opening half, compared to Geneseo's 21.4%, The Knights answered with the advantage from inside the paint, using their own success from two-point range to help secure a narrow three-point lead going into halftime.
The Knights carried their momentum into the second half, building their margin.
Joey McLaurin (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) brought energy to the Blue and White, handing off an assist to
Shane Micallef (Warwick, N.Y.) for three, and notching a fast-break jumper off of a steal. Despite the Hawks' continued effort down the stretch, the Knight's defensive pressure limited Hartwick offensively. Fighting to the buzzer, the Hawks fell to Geneseo with a final score of 72-55.
