Men's Soccer Claims 1-0 Win Over Wildcats

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Men's soccer earned a 1-0 shutout victory over SUNY Poly at Elmore Field. The Hawks found the back of the net in the 81st minute, with Jon Smith (Bremen, Ga.) scoring off an assist from Andres Ordonez Acosta (Estado de Mexico, Mexico) to secure the win.

Smith's goal marked Hartwick's lone tally of the night, while Ordonez Acosta finished with eight shots including four on goal, and added the assist. Mariano Kool (Amsterdam, Netherlands) recorded four shots, while Devin Chandler (Wylie, Tx.) and Wilson Mount (Atlanta, Ga.) each added two shots.

Jelani Usim (Kingston, Jamaica) made three saves in goal to earn the shutout, making one save in the first half and two in the second. Hartwick's defense limited Poly to three shots on goal throughout the duration of the match.

Hartwick controlled the offensive pace, holding a 26-10 advantage in shots, and a 1-3 edge in shots on goal. The Hawks also earned four corner kicks, one more than the Wildcats.
Hartwick created several opportunities In the opening half, outshooting Poly 15-3. Ordonez Acosta recorded three shots on goal during the half, while Usim made one save to keep the Wildcats off of the board. The Hawks entered halftime scoreless despite holding the advantage in chances.

The Hawks continued to apply pressure in the second half, recording 11 shots while holding SUNY Poly to seven. After several attempts in the half, Ordonez Acosta put a shot on frame in the 80th minute to force a save from the Wildcat keeper. Moments later, Jon Smith finished the breakthrough, scoring at 80:08 off Ordonez Acosta's assist to give Hartwick a 1-0 lead.
Poly generated a pair of late chances, but Usim turned aside the attempt in the 80th minute to preserve the shutout.
