UTICA, N.Y. – Women's soccer picked up a 4-0 Empire 8 victory over SUNY Poly at Wildcat Field. The Hawks scored twice in each half, using goals from
Ella Grupe (Freehold, N.Y.),
Sara Moore (East Granby, Conn.),
Kathryn Gross (Troy, N.Y.), and
Nelle Slavitsky (Conklin, N.Y.) to secure the shutout win.
Grupe led the Hartwick attack with a goal and six shots, including two shots on goal. Moore added a goal and an assist on two shots, while Gross and Slavitsky each found the back of the net.
Elizabeth Burke (Latham, N.Y.) recorded five shots and an assist, while
Reilly Groff (Monroe, N.Y.) also picked up an assist.
Kelsey Bollen (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) anchored the defensive effort, making four saves to record the shutout.
Trinity Irizarry (Greenwood Lake, N.Y.) played all 90 minutes for the Hawks, while Hartwick held Poly to just six total shots, four on goal.
Hartwick finished the night with 19 shots, putting nine on target, and earned two corner kicks. The Hawks also held Poly without a goal, limiting the Wildcats to one shot in the opening half before allowing five attempts after halftime.
With the win, Hartwick improves to a 2-4-3 overall, and 2-2-1 in Empire 8 Play.
Hartwick got on the board early with a Grupe goal in the eighth minute, with Burke providing the assist. The Hawks continued to generate chances throughout the opening half, with Moore doubling the lead in the 39
th minute.
The Hawks continued to control the match after halftime. Gross made it a 3-0 game in the 59
th minute with an assist from Groff, and Slavitsky added Hartwick's fourth and final goal in the 68
th minute off a feed from Moore. Bollen turned aside three shots in the second half to preserve the shutout as Hartwick closed out the 4-0 victory.
