ONEONTA, N.Y. – Volleyball dropped a 3-0 decision to the Geneseo Knights, falling 25-20, 25-22, and 25-13 on Neal Miller Court.
Lucille Walker (Ithaca, N.Y.) and
Isabella Gracias (Oneonta, N.Y.) led the Hartwick attack, with Walker finishing with 7 kills and 3 block assists, while Gracias added 4 kills and 3 block assists.
Maya Lesinski (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) contributed five kills, while
Makella O'Neill (Webster, N.Y.) added six kills. Setter
Thylia Keoviengsamay (Rome, N.Y.) contributed to the attack with three kills of her own, while collecting 20 assists throughout the match.
Defensively,
Malia Dake (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) Keoviengsamay, and O'Neill each recorded seven digs, while Lesinski and
Olivia Pirkl (Cazenovia, N.Y.) each added five.
Hartwick finished with 26 kills on 97 attacks, hitting a .103 for the match. The Hawks recorded 24 assists, four service aces, and 37 digs. Geneseo finished with 40 kills, 35 assists, 13 aces, and 46 digs.
Geneseo took control early in the opening set, building a 6-6 tie, before taking a four-point lead. Hartwick answered throughout the set, pulling within 12-11 and eventually taking a 16-15 advantage. The Knights responded with a late run, scoring six straight points to take a 22-19 lead before closing out the set.
The second set stayed competitive early, the Hawks holding a 6-4 lead before Geneseo pulled ahead. The Knights extended their advantage to 15-8, but Hartwick fought back with a four-point run to cut into the deficit. Geneseo maintained their lead down the stretch, however, narrowly taking the set 25-22.
Geneseo jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the third set. Hartwick chipped away at the deficit, using kills from Walker and Lesinski to bring themselves back 8-4, before continuing to battle through. The Knights eventually built a 21-12 lead, closing the match at 25-13 to secure the win.
