ONEONTA, N.Y. – Women's soccer battled Cortland on Tuesday night at Elmore Field, narrowly falling to the Red Dragons, 2-1. The Hawks battled back from an early deficit, with
Sarah Jimmerson (Davie, Fla.) finding the back of the net in the second half to even the score before Cortland scored their game-winner in the 88
th minute.
Jimmerson provided Hartwick's lone goal of the night, finishing with two shots and one shot on goal.
Caoimhe Crisci (Mahopac, N.Y.) also recorded a shot on target, while
Ella Grupe (Freehold, N.Y.) and
Elizabeth Burke (Latham, N.Y.) each added a shot.
Kelsey Bollen kept the Hawks in the match throughout the 90 minutes, making 12 saves against the Red Dragons. Bollen made four saves in the opening half, including a save on a penalty kick, adding eight more stops following halftime.
Cortland held a 20-5 advantage in shots and put 14 attempts on target compared to two for Hartwick. The Red Dragons also earned 11 corner kicks to Hartwick's zero, while the Hawks were whistled for seen fouls to Cortland's 10.
Cortland controlled much of the opening half, testing Bollen early. The Hartwick keeper made four saves before the Red Dragons broke through in the 26
th minute. The Hawks continued to battle defensively and entered halftime trailing 1-0.
Hartwick came out with a response in the second half, with Bollen making several more saves to keep the deficit at one. Jimmerson leveled the match in the 58
th minute, scoring her first goal of the night to make it 1-1. The Hawks held the Red Dragons off, before Cortland struck again in the 88
th minute.
