UTICA, N.Y. – The Hartwick Track and Field program returned to Utica for the Pioneer Fast Trax Invitational, headlined by a new Men's 4x200 record, earning a spot of the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference Regional Championships later this month.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Blue and White steadily stack their progress as they now move into two weeks before their quest for the Empire 8 Championship, hosted by Nazareth University on February 27-28th.
Senior Patrick Conteh (Salisbury, Md.) opened the Invitational with a statement, tying the school record with a 9.03 mark in the 60 meter hurdle prelim, booking his spot in the final round. First years Isaiah Sanon (Suffern, N.Y.) and Jaiden Deacon (Valley Stream, N.Y.) continue to make noise in their debut seasons as both booked their spot in the final rounds with strong performances in the 60 meter event. Sanon clocked in at 7.18 while Deacon came in at 7.27 seconds, further bolstering their Empire 8 qualifying marks.
Brynita Haas (Red Creek, N.Y.) delivered a strong effort in the mile run, placing in the top ten with a final mark of 5:54, just missing the qualifying mark. Conteh followed up with a solid effort in the 60 meter hurdle final, timing in at 9.04, just missing the program best. Sanon and Deacon followed up with stellar performances in the 60 meter final, both posting new personal bests as Sanon soared in at 7.11 and Deacon blistered in at 7.14. Shane Hunte (Rosedale, N.Y.) punched his ticket to the Empire 8 Indoor Championships with a great effort in the 200 meter, posting a collegiate best of 22.87 seconds, missing the regional qualifying mark by less than a second.
The potent combo of Cody Bazemore (Bel Air, Md.), Conteh, Deacon, and Sanon would make history for the second week in a row, shattering their 4x200 relay record they set last week at the very same facility. The group punched their ticket to the AARTFC regional championship with a final mark of 1:32.81.
For the field events, Noah Curtis (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) punched his ticket to the Empire 8 Indoor Championships as well with a 13.01 meter mark (42 feet 8 ¼ inches) in the weight throw event. Marquis Jones-McKinney (Astoria, N.Y.) rounded out the field events with a fourth place finish in the high jump, clearing six feet and ¾ inches, having previously clinched his Empire 8 qualifying mark last week.
