Oneonta, NY – Men's Volleyball hosted SUNY Poly and Dean College for a tri-match, splitting the games to mark their first ever victory on home court.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Match 1 vs. Poly)
The Hawks faced the Wildcats in their first match of the day, falling in 3 hard-played sets. Hartwick traded points in the beginning of the match, with
Anthony Ruggiero (Schenectady, NY) and
Pedro Martins (São Paulo, Brazil) collecting the first two kills to open the scoring for the Hawks. Poly widened the gap with a 5-point run to push themselves ahead,
Ethan McCaw (Ilion, NY) working against them with an essential kill and an ace. Despite the late surge, the Blue and White fell just short with a final score of 25-17.
With momentum on their side, the Wildcats opened the scoring in the second.
Keegan Doherty (Methuen, Ma.) put the Hawks' first kill on the board, trying to shorten the scoring gap.
Matt Ramirez (Rome, NY) worked hard from the middle with a kill of his own, but the Hawks ultimately fell two sets to none going into the third.
The Hawks began to find their rhythm in the last set, notching 12 kills against Poly.
Badr Aly (East Syracuse, NY) made his Men's Volleyball debut in the match, securing an ace and a kill to keep Wick in the game. In a neck-to-neck race to 25, the Wildcats found two defensive openings to reel in the victory, the Hawks narrowly falling by two points. McCaw led Hartwick offensively with 8 total kills and an ace, while Ruggiero defended the court with 7 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Match 2 vs. Dean)
Following an electric third set in their preceding match, the Hawks stepped onto the court with new intensity. In the first set against the Bulldogs, Hartwick was able to put 12 kills on the board as a team, setter
Nate Roorbach (East Aurora, NY) putting up 10 assists. Ruggiero notched the set high of 4 kills, Ramirez and Doherty contributing three more each. McCaw went on a three-point service run, collecting two of his four total aces to help push Wick to game point. Ramirez and Aly put up back-to-back kills, securing the first set 25-15.
Poly responded to the wide deficit in the second, pushing the set to a 27-25 end in favor of the Blue and White. With the Wildcats up by one point,
Keegan Doherty went on a five-point service run to set the Hawks ahead, knocking down 3 aces in the midst. Roorbach found offensive success with his middles, Ramirez and Aly combining evenly for 8 kills. A service error from Poly brought Wick up 26-25, a McCaw ace sealing the second set to put the Hawks up 2-0.
Anthony Ruggiero set the tone in the third with a four-point service run, collecting two aces and an assist.
Ethan McCaw was also able to serve two more aces, adding to his team high of 7 for the match. The Hawks ran away with the set, ending the third with a 25-15 final and their first home win as a program. As a team, the Blue and White dominated offensively with a total of 36 kills, 33 assists, and 15 service aces to emerge victorious. Libero
Colby Myers (Ilion, NY) helped defend the court with 6 digs, contributing to the team total of 27.
