HOW IT HAPPENED (Match 1 vs. Curry)
The Hawks faced Curry in their first match, falling 3–0. Anthony Ruggiero (Schenectady, NY) opened the scoring for Hartwick with a kill off a set from Nate Roorbach (East Aurora, NY). The Hawks battled point-for-point with the Colonels early on, but a three-point run gave Curry the edge. Hartwick kept things close throughout, ultimately dropping the opening set in a narrow 25–23 decision.

The second set proved to be a tightly contested battle, pushing past the 25-point mark. Ethan McCaw (Ilion, NY) led the Hawks offensively with four kills, while Ruggiero, Matt Ramirez (Rome, NY), and Keegan Doherty (Methuen, MA) added three apiece. As a team, Hartwick recorded 15 kills and hit .205. With the score tied at 28–28, Curry closed the set with back-to-back kills to secure a 30–28 win and take a 2–0 match lead.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Match 2 vs. Sage)
Hartwick faced Empire 8 foe Russell Sage College in their second match of the day, falling in straight sets (21–25, 15–25, 28–26).

The opening set featured a tight, point-for-point battle, with the Hawks recording 15 kills and an impressive .375 hitting percentage. Despite the strong offensive showing, a four-point run by the Gators proved to be the difference, as Sage secured the 25–21 win to take an early 1–0 lead.

Carrying that momentum into the second set, Sage applied pressure with two key scoring runs to build a comfortable advantage. Keegan Doherty, Ethan McCaw, and Anthony Ruggiero each tallied three kills, while Nate Roorbach and Matt Ramirez added one apiece. The early deficit, however, was too much to overcome as the Gators claimed the set 25–15.

The third set proved to be the most competitive of the match. Three early Sage errors gave Hartwick a 3–1 advantage, but the Gators quickly responded to take a 7–5 lead. The Hawks remained within striking distance throughout, highlighted by six kills from McCaw and three from Doherty. A service ace from Ramirez brought Hartwick within one at 11–10, and a McCaw kill briefly pushed the Hawks in front.

With neither side able to create separation, Sage capitalized on a few Hartwick errors to build a 20–17 edge. The Hawks responded with a three-point run to regain momentum, but the Gators answered down the stretch. A late surge by Sage, capped by three kills and a service ace, secured the 28–26 set win and completed the sweep.
