Oneonta, NY – The Hawks met the Bay Path Wildcats on home turf at Cooperstown All Star Village, coming up short in the Sunday double-header with final scores of 2-5 and 5-8.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1)
Hartwick held Bay Path scoreless in the opening frame, working around early traffic with two left on base. The Hawks managed 1 hit in the second,
Jaidan Beak (Mattawan, MI) putting herself on second base with a double. The Wildcats pushed back in the top of the second with a three-run inning off of a home run and two RBIs.
The Hawks answered in the third, stringing together quality at-bats as Beak and
Madi Hoerman (Portage, MI) recorded steals to put themselves in scoring position.
Alicea Seitzinger (Bridgeton, NJ) brought them home with a 2 RBI single, cutting the deficit to 3-2.
A sacrifice fly ball put Bay Path further into the lead in the top of the fourth, another hit in the top of the sixth finalizing the game. A wild pitch brought a Bay Path runner home, as the Hawks remained scoreless for the last inning.
Offensively, Hartwick totaled 7 hits on the day, with Seitzinger leading the way with a double RBI, while Beak,
Ashlee Stevens (Knox, NY), and
Brianna Blake (Mechanicville, NY) all recorded key hits to try to bring it home for the Hawks. In the circle, Hartwick limited the Wildcats to 5 runs on 9 hits, holding them to just two runs over the final five innings after an early offensive surge. The Hawks displayed a strong defensive effort, only allowing one error in their first game.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2)
Hartwick found themselves in an early hole as Bay Path struck for two runs on three hits in the first and added two more runs in the second, taking advantage of an error to build a 4-0 lead. The Hawks put themselves on the board in the bottom second, with
Shannon Mentz (Binghamton, NY) bringing Sam Moore (Mamaroneck, NY) around the bases with an RBI double.
The momentum flipped in the third inning as Hartwick erupted for four runs on five hits.
Mihaly Blake (Troy, NY) launched a solo home run to start the inning, while
Jaidan Beak and
Madi Hoerman executed a double steal to put themselves in scoring position.
Alicea Seitzinger drove in a run off of a groundout, bringing Beak home, while Sam Moore followed with an RBI single to tie the game 4-4. The Hawks collected a total of five hits in the frame, scoring 3 runs.
Hartwick carried the energy into the fourth, taking their first lead of the game as
Mihaly Blake doubled and later scored on a passed ball, giving the Hawks a 5-0 advantage. Blake finished strong at the plate, going 2-3 with a home run and a double.
Shannon Mentz added two hits and an RBI, also contributing positively to Hartwick's offensive efforts.
Alana Villavicencio (Deer Park, NY) had a strong performance from the circle, limiting damage in the middle innings by stranding 7 Bay Path runners between the third and fifth. Despite a valiant defensive showing, the Wildcats regained the lead in the sixth inning with two runs on three hits, followed by two more runs in the seventh off of a Hartwick error.
Despite their best efforts, Hartwick left 8 total runners on base and were unable to capitalize late- falling 8-5 in their final game of the day.
