HOW IT HAPPENED
After stringing together three consecutive wins at Wright Stadium, the Hawks looked to keep things rolling on the road as both squads entered with two conference victories.
Hartwick's leading scorer, Parker Laurin (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), got things started for the Blue and White, finishing a feed from Empire 8 Co-Offensive Player of the Week Adelyn Esce (Cicero, NY). Laurin followed with an unassisted strike at 10:48 before Lily Dempsey (Glenville, N.Y.) pushed the lead to three with her first tally at 7:35. Alfred broke through with 4:16 left in the quarter, but the Hawks answered with two unassisted goals in the final minute and a half. Senior captain Jammie Decker (Penn Yan, N.Y.) scored before Dempsey added her second to give Hartwick a 5-1 advantage after one.
Laurin opened the second quarter with another quick strike, completing her hat trick just 54 seconds into the frame. The Saxons responded 16 seconds later before Dempsey secured her hat trick off a Decker assist. Alfred added two more goals, but Decker answered with an unassisted tally as the Hawks carried a four-goal lead into halftime.
Dempsey continued her strong afternoon, opening the third quarter with her fourth goal two minutes in. Hartwick took complete control from there, holding Alfred scoreless the rest of the way. Esce pushed the lead to 10-4 off a Maura Donoghue (Paramus, N.J.) assist, and Laurin followed with her fourth goal just over a minute later. Dempsey added her fifth in a woman-up situation to close the third quarter with the Hawks leading 12-4.
Hartwick continued to press in the final 15 minutes. Esce finished a pass from Dempsey for her second goal, then set up Ashley Ament (Sayreville, N.J.) to trigger the running clock with a 10-goal cushion. First-year Abby Skurka (Cumberland, RI) added a goal off a Dempsey assist before Donoghue capped the scoring with two tallies, including a woman-up goal from Laurin, as the Hawks secured a convincing 17-4 victory.
