ONEONTA, NY – Men's Soccer picked up their first win of the season, rolling past SUNY Morrisville in a 5-2 decision at Elmore Field.
Hartwick opened the scoring late in the first half,
Wilson Mount (Atlanta, Ga.) finding the back of the net in the 43
rd minute. Mount's goal, assisted by
Devin Chandler (Wylie, Tx.) and Muhammed Traore (Manchester, N.H.), gave Hartwick a 1-0 lead heading into half.
The Hawks continued to apply pressure early in the second half, doubling their advantage as
Fischer Brogan (Ocean View, N.J.) had a hit with his first collegiate goal in the 54
th minute. Morrisville answered four minutes later, cutting the deficit 2-1, but the Blue and White responded rapidly. Mount struck again in the 67
th minute, with Chandler picking up his second assist of the night, restoring Hartwick's two-goal lead.
The Mustangs retaliated in the 79
th minute coming back 3-2, setting up a tense final stretch. Hartwick put the game away late, however, as
Kayden Zachgo (Warwick, N.Y.) scored in the 88
th minute before
Jon Smith (Bremen, Ga.) added another goal just a minute later. Zachgo's goal was assisted by Chandler, while Smith's hit came off assists from
Agastya Chaudhry (Gurgaon, India) and
Mariano Kool (Amsterdam, Netherlands).
Mount led the Hawks with two goals and four shots, putting three shots on goal, along with marking his fourth goal scored in four games. Chandler finished with a team-high three assists, while Zachgo, Smith, and Brogan all found the back of the net to put it away for the Blue and White.
In goal,
Nils Ole Petersen (Greiz, Germany) played all 90 minutes and made three saves to earn the victory. The Hawks finished the night with 14 shots, 10 on goal, while holding Morrisville to eight total shots throughout the contest.
