ONEONTA, NY – Men's soccer put together a dominant performance in their first day of conference play, earning a 4-0 Empire 8 victory over Houghton at Elmore Field.
The Hawks wasted little time getting on the board, as Muhammed Traore (Manchester, NH) found the back of the net just 2:24 into the contest off a throw-in from
Devin Chandler (Wylie, Tx.). Hartwick continued to pressure the Houghton defense, with
Wilson Mount (Atlanta, Ga.) doubling the lead in the 31
st minute, marking his 5
th goal in five games and Chandler's second assist of the match.
Chandler added a goal of his own in the 43
rd minute off of a free kick, sending the Hawks into halftime with a 3-0 advantage. Hartwick carried their momentum into the second half, with
Andres Ordonez Acosta (Estado de Mexico, Mexico) finding the net in the 73
rd minute to cap the scoring.
Hartwick finished the afternoon with a 13-5 advantage in shots and put 11 attempts on frame. The Hawks also held a 7-1 edge in shots during the opening half.
Jelani Usim (Kingston, Jamaica) made one save to preserve the shutout in goal, while Hawk defenders
Joseph Allen (Clifton Park, N.Y.),
Benji Griffiths (St. Andrew, Jamaica), and
Andrew Lunarola (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) gave stand-out performances from the back line.
