HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Women's soccer battled back in the second half of their game against the Highlanders, Houghton holding on for a 2-1 decision in the Empire 8 match up.
The Hawks faced a 2-0 deficit at halftime after Houghton found the back of the net twice late in the opening half, one at the 37
th minute, the other just one second before halftime.
Hartwick came out with a stronger response after the break.
Calleigh Byron (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) put the Hawks on the board in the 51
st minute, finishing a feed from
Lily Dempsey (Glenville, N.Y.) to cut the Houghton lead to 2-1.
The Hawks continued to pressure the Highlanders throughout the second half, recording five shots after halftime and putting two on target.
Ella Grupe (Freehold, N.Y.) and
Olivia Farnham (Millerton, N.Y.) each registered a shot on goal, while Byron's goal gave Hartwick three shots on target for the match.
Kelsey Bollen (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) made two saves in goal for Hartwick, including one in each half, as Houghton finished with 11 shots overall.
