Football Falls to Cortland 55-3

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Football was on the road to Cortland, falling to the Red Dragons 55-3.

Hartwick opened the game with a pair of promising drives, but Cortland struck first with a touchdown midway through the opening quarter. The Red Dragons added two more scores in the second quarter to take a 20-0 lead into halftime.

The Hawks continued to compete on both sides of the ball coming out of halftime, but Cortland added three touchdowns in the third quarter to extend their advantage. Hartwick's defense continued to apply pressure, with Billy O'Connor (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) recording six tackles, including a sack for a six-yard loss, while also forcing a fumble. Lincoln Lynch (Ilion, N.Y.) added eight tackles and a pass breakup, while Liam Gallagher (Monroe, N.Y.) finished with seven tackles.

Hartwick's defense also came up with a pair of takeaways. Tyler Slomka (Dallas, Tex.) intercepted Cortland's quarterback in the second half, while Robert Kennedy (Hastings-On-Hudson, N.Y.)  recovered a fumble forced on a sack by O'Connor.

On special teams, Jayden Miller (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) averaged 38.2 yards on nine punts, including a long of 57 yards. Landon Smith (La Plata, Md.)  provided Hartwick's lone points of the afternoon, connecting on a 31-yard field goal with 12 seconds remaining.
