ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hartwick College field hockey team earned a 4-1 Empire 8 victory over Nazareth University on Saturday afternoon at Wright Stadium. The Hawks scored once in each of the first two quarters before adding two more goals in the third quarter to build a four-goal advantage and secure the conference win.

Katelyn Klotz (South Glens Falls, N.Y./South Glens Falls) and senior
Hope Angioletti (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) led the Hawks offensively with two goals apiece. Klotz also added an assist to finish with five points, while Angioletti recorded an assist for five points of her own. Klotz registered a team-high seven shots, including six on goal, while Angioletti added six shots with three on goal.

Ava Reynolds (South Glens Falls, N.Y./South Glens Falls) made two saves while playing the first 45 minutes, helping Hartwick hold Nazareth scoreless through the opening three quarters.
Cassie Dodenhoff (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip) played the final 15 minutes in goal for the Hawks. Nazareth managed just three shots on the afternoon, with two coming in the second quarter.
Hartwick controlled possession and pressure throughout the contest, finishing with a 24-3 advantage in shots and putting 13 attempts on goal compared to three for Nazareth. The Hawks also earned 14 penalty corners while limiting the Golden Flyers to two. Hartwick's defense held Nazareth without a shot in both the first and third quarters.
With the result, Hartwick improves to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in Empire 8 play, while Nazareth falls to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in conference action.
Hartwick opened the scoring at the 12:28 mark of the first quarter when Klotz found the back of the cage for her fourth goal of the season. The Hawks continued to apply pressure throughout the period, earning four penalty corners and registering eight shots.
The Golden Flyers created some opportunities early in the second quarter, but Reynolds turned aside both Nazareth shots. Hartwick answered late in the period when Angioletti scored with just 52 seconds remaining before halftime, giving the Hawks a 2-0 lead heading into the break.
The Hawks added two more goals in the third quarter to take control of the game. Klotz scored her second goal of the afternoon at 39:40, with Angioletti providing the assist. Just 4:13 later, Angioletti found the cage for the second time, this time off an assist from Klotz, pushing Hartwick's lead to 4-0.
Nazareth got on the scoreboard with 8:51 remaining in the fourth quarter when Chloe Parsons scored to make it a 4-1 game. Hartwick's defense held firm the rest of the way, however, as the Hawks closed out the conference victory.
