ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hartwick College field hockey team put together a dominant performance on Wednesday afternoon, cruising past Keuka College, 8-0, at Wright Stadium in an Empire 8 conference matchup. Junior
Makayla Bales (Sidney, N.Y./Sidney) and senior
Hope Angioletti (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) led the Hawks offensively as they each notched hat tricks for the first time in their respective careers.
Bales and Angioletti each added an assist as well for seven-point afternoons. Freshman
Leah Randall (Clinton, N.Y./Clinton) added two goals and two assists, while senior
Katelyn Klotz (South Glens Falls, N.Y./South Glens Falls) contributed two assists.
Hartwick also received contributions throughout the lineup, with junior
Kayla Kinkel (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) recording an assist, along with senior
Mackenzie Hubbard (High Falls, N.Y./Rondout Valley), sophomore
Lexi Cheeseman (Owego, N.Y./Owego Free Academy), and freshman
Bella Woronicz (Lambertville, N.J./South Hunterdon Regional).
In goal, the Hawks combined to record a shutout, with junior
Ava Reynolds (South Glens Falls, N.Y./South Glens Falls), sophomore
Talia Salon (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac), sophomore
Cassie Dodenhoff (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip), and sophomore
Sydney Thomas (Windsor, Conn./Windsor) each playing 15 minutes. Thomas made the lone save of the afternoon for Hartwick.
The Hawks controlled the game statistically, outshooting Keuka, 33-1, and putting 16 shots on goal compared to one for the Wolves. Hartwick also earned 25 penalty corners while limiting Keuka to none. The Hawks' defense held Keuka without a shot through the first three quarters before the Wolves recorded their lone attempt early in the fourth.
With the win, Hartwick improves to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while Keuka falls to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in conference action. Hartwick is next in action on Saturday, Sept. 26, when they travel to Brockport to take on the Golden Eagles at 3 p.m.
Hartwick opened the scoring just 1:41 into the contest when Bales finished a feed from Hubbard. Bales struck again with 17:38 remaining in the second quarter, this time assisted by Cheeseman, sending the Hawks into halftime with a 2-0 advantage.
The Hawks broke the game open in the third quarter, scoring three times in a span of just over three minutes. Angioletti scored at 36:04 off an assist from Kinkel before adding her second of the afternoon just 1:40 later. Bales completed her hat trick at 39:14, with Angioletti providing the assist, giving Hartwick a 5-0 lead heading into the final quarter.
Hartwick continued its offensive pressure in the fourth quarter, with Randall finding the back of the cage just 34 seconds into the period off an assist from Woronicz. Randall added her second goal at 56:12, assisted by Klotz, before Angioletti completed her hat trick at 58:33 off another Klotz assist to cap the 8-0 victory.
