PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Hartwick women's soccer battled St. John Fisher at Growney Stadium but ultimately fell to the Cardinals 4-1 in the Empire 8 Match up.
Ella Weber (Lenhartsville, Pa.) scored Hartwick's lone goal of the afternoon, finding the back of the net just over fifteen minutes into the second half to get the Hawks on the board.
Kelsey Bollen (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) made five saves in goal for Hartwick, including three stops in the opening half.
Hartwick finished the match with just one shot, resulting in the goal. The Hawks also earned four corner kicks, including two in the second half, while Fisher recorded 21 shots, nine being on goal.
The Cardinals took control early, scoring three times in the opening 35 minutes. St. John Fisher's Olivia Kalil opened the scoring in the fifth minute before adding a second goal in the 18
th minute. Gia Catalano pushed the Cardinal's lead to 3-0 in the 36
th minute.
Hartwick came out of halftime looking to cut into the deficit, scoring in the 61
st minute. Weber collected the Hawks' only goal of the match, cutting the deficit 3-1. Fisher answered in the 79
th minute when Jillyan Ewing scored to restore the Cardinals' three-goal advantage.
Bollen kept Hartwick within reach throughout the second half, making two additional saves as Fisher continued to pressure the Hawks' defense. Hartwick earned two corners in the final seven minutes but could not find another goal before the final whistle.
With the result, Hartwick moves to 1-4-3 overall and 1-2-1 in Empire 8 play.
