DALLAS, Pa. – Hartwick football met Misericordia under the lights to open their season. Despite scoring twice in the fourth quarter, The Hawks ultimately fell 42-14 at Mangelsdorf Field.
Hartwick trailed 35-0 entering the fourth quarter before finding the end zone twice in the final 15 minutes. Freshman quarterback
Ty'lyn Blackwell-Williams (Nyack, N.Y.) completed 23 of 38 passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns. He connected with
Miles Sinclair (Staten Island, N.Y.) for a 28-yard touchdown with eight minutes remaining in the game, putting the Hawks on the board.
Blackwell-Williams then found
Jaylin Walker (Lynbrook, N.Y.) for a five-yard touchdown with four minutes left to cap Hartwick's scoring spree. Walker finished with four receptions for 28 yards, while Sinclair added one catch for 28 yards and the touchdown.
Latrell Willis (Warwick, N.Y.) led the Hawks with eight receptions for 55 yards.
Nicholas Massaregli (Pelham, N.Y.) added 16 rushing yards on two carries and three receptions for 24 yards.
Akil Williams (Chester, N.Y.) paced Hartwick with 73 yards on 20 carries, including a long of 19 yards.
Defensively,
Robert Kennedy (Hastings-On-Hudson, N.Y.) and
John Acompora-Miller (Huntington Station, N.Y.) each recorded nine tackles. Acompora-Miller added two tackles for a loss and a sack, while
Michael Vurchio (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) came away with an interception. Hartwick finished the night with 261 total yards, including 172 through the air and 89 on the ground.
